Dolosbage

Above photo was taken from Dolosbage mountain range. It is situated in the boundary of Central Province adjoining Kegalle District of Sabaragamuwa Province. You can reach here via Dedugala or Nawalapitiya.

The highest peak of this mountain range is known as Kabaragala which is over 4,500 feet high.

Rozella Station

I like railway stations. Typically, less crowded ones in the outstations. I particularly like the ones in hill country and down south. I remember some interesting little stations like Demodara in the Uva Province and Thalpe in the Southern Province long time back when I used to travel so often. We used to travel in the foot board of the train and step down at every station that the train stops. That was real fun!

This particular station, called Rozella located between Nawalapitiya and Hatton in the upcountry railway line, is one such lonely little station. I have uploaded more pictures of upcountry railway stations here.

Hulu Ganga at Oruthota

Oruthota is situated about 20km from the hill capital, Kandy on the Mahiyangana Road (A26).

Orutota Bridge is a popular landmark, where the road goes over Hulu Ganga, one of the main tributaries of Mahaweli Ganga (River Mahaweli).

The view over the bridge is picturesque. The river is quite wide here and it grows wider as it flows to Victoria Reservoir.

Pitawalapathana

This is an exciting area for leisure hiking in Sri Lanka. You can reach Pitawala area via Raththota - Pallegama road (Around 25km from Matale).

This is a part of Knuckles Mountain Range. If you want a more challenging hike, you have to go further up and go into Knuckles Range (Dumbara Kadu in Sinhala). In the same pathana area, you can visit one of the mini 'Worlds End' too. (A High cliff where you can see vast area below).

I really like the stretch of road from Laggala to Illukkumbura. It is trully magnificent.
