Colombo Sunset

This photo is not from the wild but taken within city limits. This scenery was captured from Marine Drive, Wellawaththa. I pass this stretch every evening, so thought of bringing some evening delights of Colombo.

Suburban Sky

This picture was taken yesterday from Nugegoda, a suburban town close to Colombo.
It is a pity that these sceneries last only a few minutes.

Cricket, Lovely Cricket

The island nation is a cricket fanatic country. You experience the most electrifying of atmospheres in a cricket ground in Sri Lanka. It is not just cricket but lots of entertainment as well: The papare* bands to DJ music; Variety of food and drinks; and of course the vibrant spectators from all walks of life!

This beautiful setting sky illuminated by the flood lights was captured at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo during one of the recent one day international cricket match between India and Sri Lanka.

*Note: 3-4 member band with unplugged music using drums, trumpets and trombones

Udawaththa Kele

This is a wonderful forest reserve situated within the city of Kandy. It is located in a hill just behind the famous Temple of the Tooth (Dalada Maligawa).

The forest area is nicely kept and there are many walkways across it. This reserve is a sanctuary for bird lovers and there are many varieties of flowers also can be seen. The view of the city from here is very charming and you can even see the picturesque Hanthana Mountain too as shown in the picture above.

I have attached more pictures here and you can find detailed information about Udawaththa Kele in this link.

The Fountain of Kandy

Kandy, the hill capital is the most beautiful city in Sri Lanka. The famous Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha (Dalada Maligawa) is situated in this city. Kandy becomes very colorful during the Annual Esala Perahera Season, which brings the country's biggest cultural pageant. The 2009 Perahera concluded a few days ago.

The Nuwara Wewa (Tank), which is in the middle of Kandy is very scenic and the surrounding mountains add extreme charm to the city. The Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya which is close to the city is one of the most attractive parks in the South Asia. Hanthana Mountain Range and Udawaththa Kele (Forest) are popular places for nature lovers and hikers.

This picture was taken from Udawaththa Kele and it clearly shows one of the newer attractions in the Nuwara Wewa, the fountain.

A City Walk

The city is not my favorite place for a walk but I really enjoyed this half a kilometer walk in the heart of the city of Colombo. This straight path, which links the Independence Square and the Planetarium in the University of Colombo premises is developed quite recently. Further development is planned here and the idea is to make a greener and more environmentally friendly area within the city.

The whole walkway is paved and quite a lot of trees are planted all along the path. Already this is quite shady but once the trees grow up further it will be one of the coolest and greenest walkways in the city. Although there were very few people in this area yesterday, I hope to see more people visit this wonderful place in the near future.
