Towards Laxapana Continued
This was also taken on the way to Laxapana but before coming to this place.
Click the image and enlarge it for a better view. Then you will see Laxapana falls like a small white thread in the middle of the picture, with Saptha Kanya as the backdrop.

Towards Laxapana
Hope you remember the road to Diyaluma Falls and Bambarakanda Falls, I posted longtime back.
Most of the roads leading to waterfalls in Sri Lanka are quite stunning. The above picture is another example.
It was taken as soon as I turned towards Laxapana waterfall from Maskeliya road, near Seven Hills Farm. The mist covered mountain is Saptha Kanya Range.

Patterns
This interesting image was captured below Laxapana Waterfall. This is the effect of water running over this rocky surface for thousands of years.

Dazzling Laxapana
This is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Sri Lanka and one of my favourite places. I brought more details about it some time back too.
To reach here, you have to turn to your right from Kalugala on A7 (About 5km after Kithulgala). After traveling about two kilometers you may turn to your right again near the power house. Then you have to proceed on this road for further 20km to reach the waterfall. Although this is the shortest path to the fall, this is not the best route as the road condition is not that good. Alternative directions are mentioned here.

Milepost Zero
Mileposts are marked to show the distance relative to some point. So what do you call that absolute point?
This unique mile post can be seen on the way to Laxapana along Norton Bridge – Maskeliya Road. I think this is the only mile post no.0 in Sri Lanka. Has anyone seen a similar milepost anywhere in the world?
After some time, I found a similar one from Bucharest, Romania, thanks to Frieda's Blog.

Laxapana Falls
Laxapana waterfall and its surrounding is a perfect location for hiking and camping.
To reach here, you have to travel along Avissawella - Nuwara Eliya Road (A7) and turn towards Norton Bridge after Ginigathhena (Sri Pada road via Nallathanni). After traveling about 8km from Norton Bridge towards Maskeliya you have to turn to your right to Seven Hill Farm. Then, you have to proceed further 3km on this road to reach this waterfall. Alternatively you may turn from Kalugala on A7 (About 5km after Kithulgala) and again turn to the right towards Maussakelle/Maskeliya before Norton Bridge. The waterfall is formed by Maskeliya Oya which is a tributary of River Kelani.
The fall is about 125m tall and it is a magnificent creation of Mother Nature. There is a huge flat rock formation on top of the fall and you can get to both the top and the bottom of the fall easily. One advice: You have to be very careful as the water levels in this area changes quite rapidly with even the slightest of rain. One of the most striking views is the Saptha Kanya Mountain Range from top of the waterfall. You can travel to Laxapana and camp near the falls and visit many places from there. If you are climbing Saptha kanya you need to come prepared and it will take a full day.
There are quite a few waterfalls in this surrounding area and I will bring details on those later.
You can view this photo in this wonderful Dutch Website - in their guest photo section.
