Driving down into and through that valley is one of the loveliest roads I know. A walk through the hills in the distance must be magnificent.

Frieda,
Thanks very much for your comments!

Dominic,

Yes, I agree with you. This area and beyond is Kelani Valley, a wonderful area for hiking.

Further down the road you will see beautiful Saptha Kanya range on to your right. (Also the same road will lead you to beautiful Maussakelle area.)

The road up to mile post zero is incredibly beautiful with sceneries like this one. In fact that road goes much closer to the mountains (Kiripanagala or Kabaragala belongs to the same range of Saptha Kanya) shown in the picture.

Anyway my photos will never be a match to your most impressive photos taken recently :)

Thanks a lot for your comments.

What a weird place to put a power plantation. But I guess that's a good spot, logically thinking :D
That valley looks amazing to me.

This is a beautiful mountain scene. It reminds me of some of the power-generating dams in our Smoky Mountains, but your mountains seem to be much higher.

Lovely, I really need to spend some quality time in that area...

Rainfield,
Yes, it is a treat to see such sceneries after a hike.

Amila,
This part is really a paradise.

Anjana,
Tiny from far but, this is a medium size hydro power plant with a capacity about 50MW.

Betsy,
Yep, I think you know that better than me :)

Chavie,
Yes those mountains are lovely.

Nicole,
It is an ideal place for a hydro power plant with good water supply throughout the year.

George,
I have not heard much about hydro power in US other than gigantic Hoover Dam of River Colorado, but I’m sure power-generating dams in Smoky Mountains must be bigger than the one here.

Offthebeatentrack,
Just make a trip that way and a quality time is assured :)

Thanks all for your lovely comments

Magerata,
Yes, that is a very interesting point - it is on normal Sri Pada route via Norton Bridge/Maskeilya.

Emma,
Hope you will be able to do that :)

Jane,
Thanks a lot :)

Beautiful scenery! Air pollution might be next to nil with all this greenery around here.

Kirigalpoththa said...

Harumi,
Yes, you can feel it when you breath this air. So fresh!

A power station nestled in greenery. What a contradiction. Love the scenery :)

Heavenly landscape. I am sure the landscape will get greener and denser with the monsoons hitting SL in full force.

Kirigalpoththa said...

Sankara,
Yes, usually during monsoon period, landscape gets greener in most part of Sri Lanka. This particular area is in the Kelani River Valley which has water 365 days. So whether raining or not this area looks always the same..green as ever :)
