More from Dedugala Road

Today, I’m bringing you the remainder of the refreshing journey I went from Bulathkohupitiya to Dedugala.

As I mentioned in a few other posts, this stretch of 12 km has many surprises. A traveler will come across prominent waterfalls like Rukmal Ella and Rikilla Ella. Also, he will see many smaller unknown water cascades like this one.

One of the prominent sceneries along this road is the 3000 feet high Dulgale Mountain. The road will go pass many rubber estates as shown in the above picture.

In addition to above, the narrow winding road will take you through many interesting places like this cave.

More pictures uploaded here.

Hello!
I've spent sometime here, for he first time. Beautiful photos of a very special part of the world, I can understand your concern for your nature and not wanting hordes of turists destroying it in ignorence. Such a pity that not everone can be gentle and humble in Mother Natures presence...
Thank you, and I added myself to your list:-)

Greetings from Sweden, Europe, have a lovely weekend! Hillevissan.

This looks like it is a most beautiful road to travel. I like the way it winds around the mountain and through the rubber plantations. No wonder it is a favorite journey of yours.

I love the angle of this photo. And the trees have fashioned themselves according to the shape of the road. Super work K.

Cheers =D

How pretty!

Kirigalpoththa said...

Me-Shak,
I think it is partly due to the neatly planted rubber trees. Thanks :)

Linnea,
Thanks a lot :)

absolutely fascinating. i've been to Dedugala many years ago and these pics tempt me to go again. it is not that far from where i live (kegalle- bulathkohupitiya road) it's a shame that we, the "local" people don't travel that much in these parts. thanks for posting.

p.s i love your blog. one of my top favorites theses days though i haven't posted any comment before. cheers!

before I read your commentary, i wanted to ask if they were rubber trees. Then you told me. They look like the tree in Malaysia.

Is Sri Lanka still tapping the trees. Rubber fetched a high price now.

Kirigalpoththa said...

Ann,
Yes they are rubber trees and rubber cultivation still going on here. Looks like you know a lot about rubber! :)
There were quite a lot of issues sometime back due to global price reductions resulted by complimentary products and other reasons.
But now the market is good for natural rubber and I too heard rubber cultivators are getting a good price.
Infact I went to a small scale rubber estate and went through the entire process of making latex sometime back in Maragoda, south of Sri Lanka.
Thanks a lot for your comments!
