Naula Kanda
This beautiful picture was taken at a village called Naula in the Mathale District. I do not know the exact name of the mountain or the lake. But since it is in Naula, I named it Naula Kanda (Kanda means Mountain). You can reach here via Mathale - Dambulla Road. The mountain and the small lake look stunning from the roadside when the dusk start to fall in.
I was lucky to climb to the top of the mountain. It was such an enthralling journey!

That's a very nice pic Kirigalpoththa... The lone mountain behind a lake reminded me of the view behind Ulhitiya (or Rathkinda, one of the two I can't remember) lake... Did you take pics at the mountaintop? :)
Thanks for sharing KGP.. A stunning scenery indeed. And what were the flowers covering the lake? Was it 'Olu' or 'Nil Manel'? Can't see them clearly from the pic.
And yep, I too wanna ask the same Q as Chavie, did you take pics from the summit? =D
hey, SL Tourist board is looking for inspiring stories and pix that might be useful in promoting tourism in Sri Lanka and by god this blog is a gold mine..
places and descriptions are impressive, good work Kirigalpoththa, i think you need to send your URL to Tourism Board or whosoever doing the campaign..
After some observations and follow through your blog, I strongly believe SK is very similar to the place I stay, Penang, Malaysia. We both enjoy these beautiful mountain and waterscape.
Good one.
Hi thanks for dropping bye I love your piccies this one of the mountain and its soft reflection is nice just going to explore some more XXX Don
What a beautiful mountain and water scape. Your photography is excellent........
It is very picturesque. Wonderful nature shot.
Chavie,
Yes I took a few photos on the mountain top as well. I shall upload soon. Think at Ulhitiya you get similar scenery. I can vaguely remember there was a similar mountain there too.
Harumi,
Good question. I think it was both Manel and Olu. I had difficulties in differentiating all three types of water lilies from some time. :) (Olu/Nelum/Manel)
I'll post one with the view from the top soon :)
Tinker,
Thanks a lot for the information. Glad to know that tourist board trying more avenues to promote tourism in SL. If someone visit Sri Lanka after seeing my blog, I will be one of the happiest person I shall inquire what I can do to help the tourist board.
Rainfield61,
You are absolutely correct. Your description on hike trails and pictures show striking similarity to what I find in SL. Love to visit Penang soon.
Ascu75aka Don,
Yes the soft reflection also adding more beauty to the scenery. Thanks for visiting my blog and I enjoyed your site too!
Thanks all for your comments!
Femin Susan and Rajesh,
Thanks a lot for your comments too!
I'm glad that the picture came up so well.
A lovely place. What was the view like from the top of the hill?
Mo,
Thanks for your comments. I'll soon attach the view from the top :)
Really? might have been nice. I've not seen Olu except on TV (not the drama, I mean the flower.. lol), but the other 2 I've seen up close.. especially white and pink 'nelum' and 'nil manel' (our national flower, right?).
I can easily imagine how beautiful this is as the sun is setting. It must be very beautiful any time of the day.
George,
Yep sunset was quite beautiful as the mountain was towards West.
Thanks for your comments!
Beautiful picture, nice composition
A very beautiful and peaceful scene! Perfect choice for Watery Wednesday.
