'Wewa' in sinhala is a tank or a huge mass of water.
North Central Province of Sri Lanka is famous for rich water resources. Most of these tanks are built by ancient kings.
The land is mostly flat but you find some interesting smaller mountains all over the area. Especially a lake surrounded by mountains will be great area for a hike.
Kandalama Tank is one such place, but situated in the Central Province (Mathale District).
This area is hotter than the central hill country so the best time for a hike would be early in the morning or in the evenings.

Kandalama is about 8 km from Dambulla and famous for many hotels in the surrounding.

Nice scene!
Regina,
Thanks a lot :)
I'm going to rip off a word my uncle uses to describe this photo - Beautymous! A cross, he says, between beautiful & fabulous, but he doesn't know where the 'm' comes in. At any rate, it's a beautiful photo!
Happy WW
Hi Tricia,
Good new word! Not to worry about the 'm';).
I learnt a new word today!
Thanks a lot for your comments and your uncle too :)
Lovely photo!! The still water, and the mountains, and the clouds in the sky!! If these tanks were built a long time ago, that means they were dug by hand!! That is simply amazing!
Judy,
This is a common sight in the North Western Province and most of the dry zones in Sri Lanka.. There are thousands of similar tanks. Some are smaller and some are bigger than this.
All these tanks have a tank bund, sluice gates, and other axilliary components all built by ancient workmen :) Quite amazing!
Thank a lot for your comments!
