Alien Identified

Hope you remember the peculiar critter, I found in the garden a few weeks back. After much deliberation, I can now pronounce that it is not an alien.

The experts in www.whatsthatbug.com have found an answer!

Also they have come up with a few findings of similar creatures in other parts of the world.
(Eg. Borneo, Guyana)

My sincere thanks go to Kulendra for linking me with this website.

The attached picture shows the enlarged wing of this nymph.

To finally get an answer to the long unsolved question is a relief and, so glad. This is my experience.

"the orthopteran fauna of Sri Lanka is virtually unknown" - really interesting! :D I hope more research is done into this class of insects... :)

It's nice to have an answer to your mystery and to know that you've found something relatively rare. And to think it was in your own garden!

Nice, basically an exotic grasshopper/cricket right? Might be a new species:)

Really cool!
It does look like some kind of friendly alien, though. ^,^

So fascinating! That's a great website to help with identification too - I've bookmarked it for my own future use (when our snow has gone and I can take photos of insects again!)
Best wishes to you for a happy 2010,
Jane
