Google Analytics

Off topic, but thought this is a wonderful tool for all bloggers.

I activated Google Analytics in my blog a few days back and enjoying some excellent stats since then. You just need to add a small code (Tracking code) in your template and heaps of analysis will be shown about your site. In addition it gives benchmark figures too!

The above graph, (which is only one out of umpteen numbers of features in this free version) shows the number of absolute, unique visitors to my site from the day I activated Analytics (5th Nov). To learn more about Google Analytics click here.

Yes, it is a good analytical tool, but the data are sometimes meaningless to me if I never make use of them.

yeah, Analytics is brilliant! I particularly love the map overlay that shows me where in the world the readers are coming from... excellent tool for all bloggers! :D

Mentioning GA as a tracking tool for bloggers is bit of an underestimation of this great Google product. In fact, it can be compared with any of the leading enterprise level analytics tool such as Ominiture. We are using it on our eCommerce website for quite sometime at my work place. It's a great tool and above all it's free!

Try the "Site Overlay" option under "Content" category. You can see what links on your website/blog are most popular and mostly clicked through, as an overlay of the actual layout of your website.

Glad to hear that!

Yes, analysis it self won't do, unless you do changes to your content and site design according to the findings.. So far I got to know quite a lot about the visitors, their behaviour and patterns. I'm planning to do some changes to the design as per the findings but will wait for sometime until i get atleast 2 months data.:)

You are most welcome!

You are most welcome too!

Yes, map overlay is one of my favourite too. There are some very interesting findings that you can put to good use when desgining template and posting content.

Thanks all for your comments!

Thanks for the very interesting insights about Google Analytics (GA). Yes I too understand it is quite an underestimation of GA to name it just as a tracking tool. If you do web based business, the powerful features in GA can be used as a powerful market planning tool as well.
When that amount of features comes for free all e-based marketeers must be laughing..

I just checked the 'Site Overlay' function..it is really cool..

Thanks again!

Welcome :-)

This is why I'm such a big fan of Google. They give everything for free. A 7 GB email inbox, a free hosting service for our blogs (on our own domain!), and free analytic, and much more. I'm wondering where the catch is. May be they will charge one dollar a month for each service in a future day, and still they can earn a lot of money with the fan base they have.

Sorry for going off topic :-) Await for more interesting travel pics.

Hi Amitha,

I'm a fan of Google too and no worries of going off topic :)

I think current Google ad programs are working fine so they can continue to give free products while generating profits.

I think they will continue with free products but will start charging for enterprise versions like in Google Earth etc.

Thanks again for your comments!
