Aliens in the Garden
I do not know what this is. It is not something I have seen before. It surely resembles to one of those alien creatures in sci–fi films than an earthling.
So what is it? Take your guess! You can refer more pictures here.
For those who cannot wait, the answer is here.

Looks like some sort of cicada of some sort?
a lobster gone wrong!
N,
Could be, but those looong antennae looks very unusual..Thanks for your comments!
Dee,
That is a very good guess..for some unknown reason this insect is very lobster like :D
I thought it is a crocodile at a glance.
Could it be a molted body... abandoned, discarded body casing? It has wings ... flying over the water ... it is certainly an odd looking creature... I would not want to run into in the sea ... How large is it? Of the Crustacea or arthropods I would guess. Yes Crustacea is a word that emerges in my mind. Right or wrong thats my guess. Some giant lice... yikes. Those wings make it look so old somehow.
eeeek!!! :O alien indeed! lol :)
I will admit I have no idea what this creature is. But I do know your photographs are wonderful. I'm very impressed with the detail you've captured.
Most def. an alien!
Be glad he didn't transport you to his ship ;)
Ugh---I hate bugs, K... I know that some of them are so helpful to us (like eating other bad bugs, etc.)---but I still don't care for bugs. One of my sons had a bug-collection once.... Gads!!!! ha
Have a good day.
Betsy
would not say cute..but it has its own features...simply rare :)
fix a name for it....its your finding after all :)
Some kind of sea creature I'd be afraid of! heheheee
You have a beautiful blog w/ great photos!
Rainfield,
Yep..the eyes and the top of the head is very croc like :)
Carol,
To me it is more like an insect. It could be even a nymph of an insect. It had a body about 3 inches but the antennae itself was around 4 inches long. It was hung on the roof edge like this for hours.
Sharodindu,
Yep, it must be quite rare. If no one comes with the correct name..I may think about fixing my own name :)
George,
It was hung on the roof edge for hours and finally disappeared into the garden..so I had enough time to capture all the details :)
Nicole,
Yes..imagine a ship full of these species. :D
Betsy,
Hi hi..I too do not care much about bugs but this one.. I couldn’t stop taking photos from all angles.
Chavie,
Yep martian bug..perhaps? :D
Tricia
Thanks Tricia for the compliments, cannot be a sea creature for sure :)
Thanks all for your comments…hope some genius will come up with the exact name of this peculiar critter!
I have no idea what it is. But closeup shots make it look really dangerous and big.
Rajesh,
yep close up reminds you some devilish creature for sure!
Did you by any chance visit the Galapagos? lol Great discovery, though have no idea what it is. From the looks of it, seems like an evolved hybrid of a cricket and a shrimp. =D
Hey Harumi,
Good to hear from you after loooong time. So how are you?
I have not gone to Galapagos although i would love to :)
I too think it can definitely be some sort of a cricket..may be a nymph of a cricket.
Shrimp part well..though it has a very close resemblence to a shrimp....his earliest predecessors must have left the sea millions of years ago.
Thanks very much for your comments!!
very good question, but I don´t know the answer. Sure I am happy to not found one of this during my travel to Sri Lanka....
May be you found a new specimen???....
Vicente B,
All my blog friends tried but seem to be no definite answer yet!
So I might have found a new species ;)
Thanks for your comments!!
Hi
I cross posted this at Lakdasun.com/forums hoping someone there might find an answer. (Link at http://www.lakdasun.com/forum/index.php?topic=1040.0) Lets see if it works :)
The head of the creature reminds me of the aliens in recent sci-fi District 9, perhaps that may give some answeres.
Hi Kulendra,
Thanks very much :)
I follow Lakdasun although I have not commented before. Hope someone will come up with an answer..
The head of this critter surely looks like an alien :)
Machan, I think you better post this at http://www.whatsthatbug.com/ask-whats-that-bug/
