Spectacular Saint Clair

This dazzling waterfall known as St. Clair is one of the most admired waterfalls in Sri Lanka and most probably the widest of them all. It is situated close to Thalawakele Town which is about 25 km from Nuwara Eliya.

This waterfall is made out of Kothmale Oya, a tributary of River Mahaweli. It has two main steps and the entire falls is about 250 feet high. (The bottom step is not visible in the picture)

You can see the above view while traveling by train to Nanuoya. The same waterfall is one of the most preferred views for all commuters who travel along Nuwara Eliya - Hatton stretch of A7 main road.

St. Clair's Falls is one of the most spectacular sights in Sri Lanka.

Sunny,
Yes I love the greenery around this area in addition to the silvery splash!

George,
You are welcome! This is known as Sri Lankan Niagara for its splendor and wide flow :)

Betsy,
George just commented before you :)
All the people who travel along the main road just over this falls never forget to spend at least a few minutes to get an eyeful of this magnificent falls. It is such an amazing scenery.

Rainfield,
That is a good wish, very humble one as well :)

Icy BC,
You are true. It is a majestic view!

Ranil,
I pray it won’t dry up after the project but definitely there will be a considerable effect :(

Betchai,
Yep, the very green landscape adds more beauty to the already spectacular scenery

Gadgetgirl,
Oh yes! I love them too :)

Thanks all for your wonderful comments!

an attraction that anyone visiting Nuwara Eliya can't miss! :) I love Saint Clair and her sister falls at Devon... lovely photo K, and I think I've never seen the bottom-most step in a photograph! :)

Kirigalpoththa, I enlarged the photo for a closer look. It is truly magnificent. What a national treasure.

Wow.. such beauty.. I've heard it's one of the best spectacles in Lanka but this might be my first time seeing it surrounded by all that greenery. Makes a perfect scenery for a wall carpet! =D

Great capture and thanks a lot for sharing!

Great Nature. Beautiful shot.

Was this photo taken from the train? It's looks grand. Definitely beautiful.

Chavie,
Oh yes Devon is as good as her sister..
The bottom step of St clair is not visible that well from the road or railway track.
That little hill infront (With tea estate) covers the bottom part.

Prospero,
Yep it is a national treasure for sure!

Harumi,
For me this is the most attractive waterfall in Sri Lanka. It has such grandeur!
Sure it will fit to a very attractive wall carpet :)

Luiz Ramos,

Lovely photo....Our topography around here is quite flat, so we don't have waterfalls like that nearby!

Dave,
I agree.. to form waterfalls you need mountainous terrain and a good amount of rain too. Thanks a lot for your comments :)
