Closer to the Clouds

This beautiful picture was taken at the World's End of Horton Plains. This place is about 7000 feet above mean sea level and the precipice here is more than 3000 feet.

The clouds and the blue sky add extra beauty to the scenery seen faraway below.

That piece of mountain with sunshine is great and is not able to have such a picture without a long hike earlier.

Hi Rainfield,

This day we had lots of sunshine and the scenery was very clear. Infact we can see far faraway from this place.

Some days you get lots of mist here so you cannot see much but the mist bring this place a magical feeling..that you have come to the end of the world..

So we call this place 'World's End'.

You have to walk at least 2 hours to get here from a place called Farr Inn

Tks for your comments!

Hello Kirigalpoththa~ Your picture is beautiful. I bet you go hiking a lot to such places from the look of your blog. I'll definitely be back to see more of your world. Have a great day.

You're really high up there and you're getting fabulous vistas of the surrounding countryside. Looks like there are some lakes down below. Must be nice and cool that high up! Thanks for sharing...

I really like this picture -- the scene is absolutely stunning. I see that you said getting there involved a two hour hike. I would say that the hike was definitely worth it!

wonderful pic K! it's so rare for a photo taken from World's End to show so much scenery, since most of the time it's obscured by the mist... :)

Beautiful indeed. We hardly go that way on our visits to HP as our (target) birds can be found in sites before that.

Wow.. that's such a picturesque scenery.. and it's the first time I'm seeing the lowlands so clearly, like Chavie mentioned. The haziness in the midst of the pic adds a fine contrast.. Great pic indeed! Thanks for sharing.

Michelle,
Thanks for visiting by blog and for your comments. Please do come again. Saw your very interesting blog too!

Linnea,
It is around 15 degrees Celsius during day time here at Horton. Very cool compared to Colombo which is around 30C.
The water body you see faraway is actually a tank. That area is also very nice. I will bring some photos of those tanks also soon.

Betchai,
Thanks for your comments. I’ll show a picture of ‘real world’s end’ too soon :)

George,
That walk is really worth! On the way you can see a wonderful waterfall, called Baker’s Falls too. Also you can go pass the beautiful plain with lots of streams and mountains in the vicinity. Also on a quite morning you will see lots of wild animals like sambhurs too.

Chavie,
Yes. It is not easy to take a very clear picture from the top. Still I prefer a one with lots of mist 

Gallicissa,
I have seen quite a few birds there but I do not think you see a variety of birds like you spot in lower lands. Think some birds find it difficult to adjust to the high altitudes and the climate.

Angel.Pearls,
Thanks for your comments!

Harumi,
May be the sunlight fell right at the time and it helps to get a better view. The sky was very clear too despite a few clouds..

Thanks all for your comments!!

Great picture. It looks a little dangerous even.

Yogi,
You sure feel a bit nervous when you are close to a 3000feet cliff :) But this place is very safe..
