Clouds Gathering over Paddy Fields
A walk through a paddy field, where ever in Sri Lanka is always refreshing.
Most of the paddy fields in Pallewela, Western Province are harvested as the festive season is just around the corner.
The month of April comes with evening showers full of thunder and lightening. This is ideal for next season of paddy as the rain brings water and lightening brings nitrates and nitrites to enrich soil.

Hey bro, whereabout is Pallewela? Is it in the Kaluthara district? There are some awesome paddy fields right here in the western province, which a lot of people fail to enjoy. Some of my favorites are on the 255 Kottawa - Mount bus route (a bus I used to take everyday after school) and another stretch near the Jayawardenapura hospital. Paddy fields also come in handy as excellent kite flying stations in the August kite season! :)
Pallewela is in Gampaha District. If you travel by train it is between Veyangoda and Mirigama. If you travel along Kandy Road you have to turn from Pasyala.
There are some very interesting places in Western Province, and we fail to enjoy them cos we are too busy with our everyday work..
255 Route - Is it the stretch between Pliyandala n Kottawa? I have travelled upto Piliyandala many a times..and love the scenery at Bologoda Lake.
The fields in J'pura hospital is very beautiful. So nice to have such areas close to Colombo.
Flying kites in paddy fields can be as good as in beach on a windy day!
Yes, it's that stretch, near Suwarapola if I'm not mistaken. Such an open area with a lot of surface water and all. Unfortunately the use of chemical fertilizers and insecticides has dramatically altered the ecological balance in the paddy fields. What was once so rich with biodiversity has now become rather dead stretches of land.
The whole area around the parliament complex is really beautiful, especially the often forgotten area to the back of the parliament.
Suwarapola area is unique cos of adjoining Bolgoda Lake. I have gone that direction couple of times to enjoy water sports.
Agree with the chemical fertizers and the impact.
Its the time we put more effort on organic agriculture and reduce/control the use of chemicals..
