Yes I saw a similar looking thing near Kalpitiya and took a photo. my camera being a standard 10mp digital one, when the photo came out on the computer, all I could make out was sand.
That IS impressive camouflage - i can only see its legs & eyes! I adore that white shell with the pink detail, just above it. I'd love to check out this locale in person! The sand looks so warm & inviting. :)
Amaris, If you are fond of nice sea breeze and long beaches, this is a great place to explore. Also you will find many more interesting creatures like this one along the beach..
You are so right... I can barely see him there...
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Betsy
I had to enlarge the photo to see the creature :)
ReplyDeleteHope no one stepped on it..
The first thought was 'but you found him or her'. I don't like crabs so it is safe from me in any case. :)
ReplyDeleteI have to learn, and we have to learn this trick.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great eye to even see this crab. It truly is great camouflage.

ReplyDeleteBetsy,
ReplyDeleteYes, only way you can see them is that you see the faint shadows of them. Otherwise no chance of spotting them with the sandy B/G
Mahasen,
There are 100s of them in the beach so it is a task not to trample them :) Usually they are very quick movers so they know how to survive.
Magerata,
They live in small holes dug out by them in the sand. Whenever some one comes their way they run to their 'own' hole.
Rainfield,
Not an easy trick at all for us. :)
George,
Yes, they have a grainy pattern on their bodies just like sand.
GG,
ha..ha..! I think you find them all along the beach from Negombo to Kalpitiya.
Thanks all for your comments!
