Laggala to Pallegama


This is a stretch of road with spectacular beauty. This road marks the upper boundary of Knuckles Range and to reach here you have to go pass Matale on A9 and turn towards Raththota at Mandandawela.

The whole area is hilly and the climb starts after Raththota. Laggala is situated at a higher altitude and there will be a fair descend towards Pallegama. You will go pass beautiful Pitawalapathana area and towards Pallegama, you will see the merging of lower country and the hill country. There are some excellent hiking routes and mountain climbs in this area.

The same, Laggala- Pallegama road stretches to Wasgomuwa Nature Reserve and also any traveler can reach Polonnaruwa of North Central Province via Elahera. I will bring more details about Wasgomuwa Reserve and beautiful Elahera - Polonnaruwa Road via Angamedilla later.

    The light green colour is very soothing to the eye. Any picture with Pathana is comforting to the viewer.
    Never been to Ireland but seen similar locations in Wales.

    Yep..Very nice photo.
    I agree, there are a lot of nice hiking tracks there. I bet this is one of the best wild places in Sri Lanka. Nature, climate & everything..

    Indeed this area is a hiker's paradise.
    From Pallegama you can cut across Knuckles and reach Looluwatte or Bamabarella.

    I like this picture very much! The beautiful mountains in the distance and the paddyfields nearby shows two different landscapes, yet there is a perfect balance. this is where the hillcountry and lowlands meet..tks for your comments!

    I love the lines along the crests of the mountains... the form that time has welded... I notice too the simplicity of the fencing and wonder what is being kept from entering. Beautiful! Carol
